SMS Consent & Opt-In Flow

This page documents every path through which a parent/guardian consents to receive SMS from SafeGrow by LiameedS. SMS consent is always voluntary and never a condition of using the service. Parents who decline or skip all opt-in paths receive no messages from +1 877-834-8512.
Opt-in Path 1 — Account sign-up checkbox
The primary and most visible opt-in point is a checkbox shown on the account creation screen, below and separate from the Terms of Service / Privacy Policy acceptance checkbox.
The sign-up form shows two distinct checkboxes in this order:
- Checkbox 1 (required to proceed): "I confirm that I have read and accepted the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy."
- Checkbox 2 (completely optional — unchecked by default): SMS consent checkbox shown below, with the full text:
I agree to receive SMS about parental monitoring, security alerts and account information. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to unsubscribe, HELP for help. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
Directly beneath the SMS checkbox label, in smaller text:
Optional consent. You can change this preference at any time in Settings > SMS Notifications.
- The SMS checkbox is unchecked by default — parents must actively check it.
- Account creation succeeds whether or not the SMS checkbox is checked — it is never enforced.
- Parents who leave it unchecked receive no SMS from us.
- The choice can be reversed at any time inside the app: Settings → SMS Notifications.
When a parent checks the SMS box and completes account creation, the first SMS they receive is:

Opt-in Path 2 — In-app SMS Alerts screen with OTP (double opt-in)
Parents who did not check the SMS box at sign-up can opt in later through a dedicated screen, which uses double opt-in (OTP verification).
When a parent connects a child to a school, the app displays an optional "SMS Alerts" screen. This screen has a prominent Skip button — dismissing it closes it permanently and no messages are sent.
Parents who proceed enter their phone number and individually choose which categories to receive:

After tapping "Activate Alerts", we send a 6-digit one-time passcode to the entered number. The parent must enter this code in the app to confirm phone ownership. No alerts are sent until the OTP is verified.

Opt-outs are processed immediately. Parents can also revoke consent inside the app: Settings → SMS Notifications → Disable.
Message types & samples
All messages are transactional only. No promotional or marketing messages are sent from +1 877-834-8512.

Every alert message ends with Reply STOP to opt out. Message frequency varies (1–10/week per child depending on activity).
Consent record retained per user
- Phone number (E.164 format)
- Consent source (signup checkbox or in-app OTP screen)
- Consent status and selected alert categories
- Timestamp of opt-in and OTP verification (Path 2)
- Opt-out timestamp and keyword used (if applicable)
- Consent text version shown at time of opt-in
